Finished #MegaMan 8 and 9 today for the first time basically since release. I liked 8 a lot more than I remembered. Having a dedicated button for special weapons and refilling weapons on death meant I used them liberally and experimented a lot more than I usually would. It's got a lot going for it and a lot of love seems to have gone in. It isn't perfect and I wish some of the gimmicks had been taken further, but overall I'd rate it pretty high.

Looking at the gallery, I also see that Protoman apparently wears sunglasses under his helmet.

As for MM9, I don't get this gane's reputation. I found it incredibly easy but maybe it is just difficult in a way that makes sense to me. (It feels like MM5, minus the slide and charge shot. It even has the same button pattern as Wave Man's stage!)

Playing the two together is interesting; MM8 looked forward and tried many new ideas; MM9 looks backward, even eschewing sliding and quick weapon switching. Both games show a lot of passion and try really hard. #rockman #psx #capcom

Finished #MegaMan 7. Many years ago, I remember practicing with an emulator and being able to dodge the final boss consistently. That muscle memory is totally gone, but 4 E-tanks and an S-tank was sufficent!

This game is such a mixed bag and feels unfinished. Parts of it feel poorly balanced, and I don't see the reason for having 2 sets of 4 robot masters instead of just making all of them available. And Mega Man is just slightly too big.

That said, there are lots of genuinely fun and cool parts, and it is fun to learn some of the boss patterns. Great music too, especially those credits 💀 + 🔥 = 🎶
