#PortlandME - #RipeForRepair Meetup

April 12 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Odd Fellows Hall
651 Forest Ave
Portland, Maine 04101 United States

"#RepairMeetups are free community events where people come together to help each other fix everything from small home appliances to damaged textiles.

They’re about celebrating under- appreciated skills and learning new ones, holding on to things that take a lot of resources to make but can quickly end up in landfills, and connecting with other humans. Experts, novices and curious spectators welcome!

#BCM will be in attendance with #PortlandGearHub to offer assistance with a wide variety of common bike repairs, like brake adjustments, tuning gears, fixing flat tires, lubricating chains, and removing wobbles from wheels."

#NYC - #RepairCafé #ElBarrio is more than a place to reach out.

It’s a growing community built around repair, learning, and collective care.

Upcoming 2026 sessions:

Sundays
March 15th, April 19th, May 17th, June 28th, July 19th, August 16th, September 13th, October 18th, November 15th and December 13th

From 11 to 2pm
Location: at El Barrio Artspace PS109

"What is a Repair Café?
Repair Cafés are free, community-led events where volunteer experts help visitors diagnose and fix broken household items. They started in The Netherlands in 2009 and have now spread to cities and communities all around the world.

At Repair Café El Barrio, we most commonly repair vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, lamps, clocks, clothing, and audiovisual equipment (including computers and cameras). Our goal is to empower visitors with hands-on repair skills. We don’t just fix things for you — we work with you, side by side!

When & Where
We meet once a month in the main gallery of El Barrio Artspace at 215 East 99th Street. Each Sunday session runs from 11am to 2pm and is donation-based: pay what you wish. Enjoy coffee, fresh fruit, and other refreshments while repairing your items.

To participate, send us a photo and a short description of what you’d like to repair. Once confirmed, we’ll reserve your spot for that session."

#PeterboroughNH - #MAXTMakerspace #RepairCafe - March 14, 2026

Every Second Saturday
10 AM - 2 PM

MAXT Makerspace:
Noone Falls, 50 Jaffrey Road, Peterborough, NH, 03458

"What do you do with a broken toaster? Or with a bike when the wheel runs out of alignment? Or with a sweater full of moth holes? MAxT is organizing New Hampshire's first Repair Cafe on the 2nd Saturday of each month to help you fix what's broken.

Our volunteer repair experts will be available to help you make all possible repairs. Tools and materials will also be on hand. You can bring your broken items from home. Repair stations will include small electronics, clothing, bikes, furniture, toys and jewelry - anything that is broken is welcome and more than likely can be repaired!

By promoting repairs, MAxT MAkerspace wants to help reduce mountains of waste, put neighbors in touch with each other in a new way and discover that a lot of know-how and practical skills can be found close to home.

The event is free but donations to the repair cafe are encouraged to keep this event going."

#ToxicWaste from screens ends up in endangered #dolphins, study finds

Gene-altering chemicals found in humpback dolphins and finless porpoises, raising alarm they may end up in human food chain

by Tara Russell
Wed 25 Feb 2026 08.00 EST

Excerpt: " 'The presence of #LCMs in their brains is a major red flag,' He said. 'If these chemicals can cross the blood-brain barrier in dolphins, we must be concerned about the potential for similar effects in humans who are exposed through contaminated seafood or even drinking water.'

"#ElectronicWaste is a growing problem around the world, with 62m tonnes of it generated each year. The main culprit is '#FastTech' – cheap and often poorly manufactured items viewed as disposable, including devices that use LCMs.

"To reduce the damage, the researchers said people should try to extend the life of their #electronics through #repairs and disposing of them using certified #EWaste recycling methods."

"Our anarchist repair cafe is happening every first Monday of the Month. From 19h until 22h you are welcome with all your broken stuff, the patches you always wanted to sew on your jacket and anything else that needs a second life.

We have tools and experience available for almost anything you want fixed: a soldering iron to fix the cable on your favourite headphones, a full set of safety screwdriver bits to open any device you want opened and all the sewing gear you need to look your best self.

So if you want to learn repairs, need some help with your projects or want a nice chat about #anarchism, stop by!

EndOf10 - we help you switch to Linux

Support for Windows 10 ended in Octobe4 2025, and many older computers cannot upgrade to Windows 11. Installing Linux on your old computer can prolong its lifespan and help reduce e-waste. Bring your computer and we'll help you with the installation process."
