I bought a new 32-bit float field recorder recently for some new adventures in sound design.
While 24 bit is most common, the major advantages of 32-bit float are (1) the *massive* dynamic range and (2) audio doesn't clip if it exceeds 0db.
For context:
The maximum range of 16-bit audio is 96dB. For 24-bit audio it is 144dB. For 32-bit float it is a comically staggering 1,528dB. 🤣
