#Alcohol isn't inherently #subversive.

Making alcohol more widespread is a tactic #colonizers have deliberately used to constrain #resistance. Alcohol makes it harder to be aware of what's happening and react with #agency and deliberation. It also keeps you dependent on a very #capitalist industry, giving it your #money. And structuring #social life around alcohol excludes a lot of #disabled and recovering people and #kids--people with direct experiences being #oppressed by #empire.

The thing is that growth of #liberal #democracy implies the hitherto #oppressed (e.g. #women, #poor, #marginalized, etc.) became better off and the ones at the top (i.e. #men from dominant #tribes) started really hating that. They subverted democracy to gain more #money (low #taxes) and #power to turn back time (i.e. #MAGA) They use both money and power to increase #tribalism which weakens #liberal #democracy that in turn weakens #economic #growth - get it?
