The #Debian family is huge, and welcoming too ! Every packaging team has its own #debian-<teamname> IRC channel on #OFTC and I'm happy to be visiting different teams these days.

It feels like visiting relatives on Christmas :)

O provedor atendia. Bim bim bim bom bom bom shush shshshshshshs.... Conexão estabelecida! ☎️🌐

GNU and FSF related IRC channels - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation

As of today #postmarketos on irc.oftc.net is the fifth biggest IRC channel on OFTC.

#alpine-linux is, as of today, *the* biggest OFTC channel, and behind #alpine-linux is #oftc itself.

In case you had not heard, the official #matrix bridge on #OFTC may be shut down by The Matrix .org Foundation in the coming months. We've posted some alternative resources to help our communities plan for this possibility, and will communicate further as we know more.

OFTC - Update

@brentdev
.. and on the other hand, you will certainly remember the time well (was that before Corona?) when, due to great egoism and the resulting loss of trust, freenode-irc became a no-go and thus destroyed for all people volunteering in free and open software #liberachat was created out of nowhere, which in turn resulted in a mass switch of all these good spirits to liberachat. This was unprecedented evidence of who the f(l)oss-fsf communities belong to mentally. Do you know a better example of positive conspiratorial and, above all, such great collective unity and clarity? Not me. This happened in no time without much talking. The good spirit called and everyone came. Well a few went to #OFTC, but even #Kali-Linux has a connection bot to liberachat because many of their fans were too quick to join libera. I have never experienced a major brain drain or should I say mind drain. The purest migration of good folks.
I don't mean to say that with what's left of #freenode there are only heartless zombies running around. My friends from PuppyLinux are still there (and also on lberachat) and are holding the fort because many Windows users are interested in #puppylinux to get started and are checking out freenode first.
You can see that so far I've only been on irc channels. Facebook x etc were never an option for me because even in their early days I foresaw that this could not have a good development for their users and for our society.

You know, I believe that the spirit here for many people is the same good spirit and I have already seen a few profiles that reinforce my belief. I think I will feel comfortable here.
Thank you for your welcome :D

How precisely does #OFTC calculate the maximum client line length?

From getting cut off earlier than in OpenProjects, and some comments on #IRC, and some debugging, I found that…

:nick!ident@host PRIVMSG #channel :message + CRLF

… is supposed to allow for 512 bytes, but some calculating around gives me 510 bytes, so…?

(The client will start sending at PRIVMSG, of course, the other thing is just præfixed internally, unfairly contributing to the max line length.)

(And perhaps I have a longer hostmask today than I normally had in OpenProjects.)

@LupusMichaelis I'm no mentor for #HaikuOS (nor any coder skills), so I can't answer there, maybe you could ask around on the mailinglist or at #OFTC #haiku channel on #IRC?

@mmu_man @liberachat @matrix Meanwhile, #OFTC works just fine. I can only encourage everyone to move off of @liberachat and to #OFTC. @liberachat treating 1/4 of their users like they’re just garbage is just unacceptable, and OFTC has not shown so much spite towards their users.
