It's a weird coincidence that Stockholm Exergi also is going to capture 800 000 ton CO₂ and store it at the same place in Norway. Starting 2028 if everything goes to plan.

That's going to be negative emissions.

This publication is our analysis of the draft EU #carbon removal rules for #BECCS and #biochar.

There is a real risk that these methodologies, currently developed by the EU under the #CRCF, end up certifying activities consisting of a mere transfer between the biogenic & geological carbon pools, or even additional CO2 emissions, instead of actually removing it from the air.

Draft carbon removals rules: will the EU’s climate action be ruined by its bioenergy policy?

Two decades ago, when the EU started incentivising burning wood as a form of renewable energy and counting CO2 emissions from wood combustion as ‘zero’ in th...

Coming up in 30 minutes: the Biomethane Industrial Partnership webinar on bioCO₂ in which my colleague Leo Gray and I give an overview of why we need it, how it becomes available in biomethane production, and how we can put it to use.

Highly recommend this in-depth discussion between Johan Rockström and Kevin Anderson on the relationship between #planetaryboundaries & the #carbonbudget, the role of #negativeemissions, the biases inbuilt in integrated assessment models and the need to embed equity in mitigation.

Transitioning to negative emissions only requires demonstration that the technology is available, economical, and reliable.

Beginning the path to zero emissions in 10 years will ensure that we are well-placed to minimise global warming, and create an economic boom as new sectors emerge to support and utilise the new economy.

We support:

- Setting a target for net zero emissions in 10 years, with negative emissions, carbon drawdown, to follow.
- Building the renewable replacement for the fossil-fuel grid.
- + Much more!

Climate Emergency

For decades the need for reducing carbon emissions has been known. Now, we have reached the point of emergency. We have passed any point that could be regarded as safe, and must not only reduce emissions to zero, but also draw down existing greenhouse gases to reduce their overall concentrations. Preventing catastrophe will require action across all sectors of the world’s economies, and will require decisive action to take advantage of all options still open to us.
