so i learned that the nalbinding stitch that i use worked flat gives me a very similar space as garter stitch, but wider? and with one row instead of two.

the sample here is increased 2 stitches at the pink markers and decreased 2 stitches at the blue markers without a "knit all"　row in between as the single needle knotted stitch seems to incorporate it.

when i tried it with the extra full row, the mitered bits were not as sharply defined, so i'm going to see what happens by making an EZ Surprise Scarf with this method and seeing how the stripes work out. then it's casting on a Surprise Jacket time!
