@hakirsch When I heard that sound today I thought, "How many unfortunate people are about to get the hell beat out of them."

The biggest issue I've read centers around it alerting abusers that the abused has a secret cellphone they use for their own safety. I know my iPhone has setting to turn off Amber alerts, as well as emergency alerts or turn off the sound on the same. Not sure if that disables the national alert. Don't know if the setting is available on the cheapest phone.

So uh… my @purism Librem 5 was the only phone in my pocket to not go off with an emergency alert nationwide.
Pixel 7a with Graphene and my iPhone all went off as did my work iPhone.
I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest?

WTAF MY PHONE WENT OFF WITH THAT STUPID #NationalAlert!!!!!

it's 2:46pm as i type this. as i noted before, the system went off here in NYC at 2:19PM EST.

as the phone completely boots up, it goes off.

not only that: whomever coordinated this with #TMobile assumed i do not speak English. i do not have my phone localized to Spanish.

this is not good.

it not only puts some people's lives in danger; but it was coordinated by bigots.

I for one am really glad that this #NationalAlert did not in fact turn people into #Zombies or otherwise activate #5G or #Marburg virus in people.

That stuff sounded really scary, if unlikely.
