Mt Kenya is the African continent’s second-highest mountain and, unusually, is comprised of many separate peaks rather than a single summit due to the erosion of its original ice cap over two glacial periods.
For scientists, its past is of great interest; for today’s explorers, it offers a sublime trekking experience.

Dendrosenecio keniodendron or giant groundsel is a giant rosette plant endemic to Mt Kenya at altitudes between 3900 and 4500 metres.
All plants on Mt Kenya flower synchronously with irregular number of years between. Rosettes close and open depending on the weather and this way regulate the temperature in the middle of the rosette.
