Montego Bay Vacations

There was a lot of British Leyland et al content at the meet, a surprising number of Stags in fact. Pick of the bunch for me were these three. Very late registered Rover Montego, a not-brown-or-orange-but-both Morris Marina, and a cute little Austin Metro.

Ultimate Retro Road for the 1990’s Sales Rep!

In the highly competitive midsize sedan segment, where comfort, performance, and practicality converge, four contenders stand out – the Rover Montego, Ford Sierra, Vauxhall Cavalier, and Peug…

I legit just saw somebody driving an #AustinMontego. A fucking #Montego. I didn't think there were any of those left of the road. Or not in little piles of rust, even. #ClassicCars
Yesterday, I explained how the #Austin #Maestro hatchback was transformed into the #Montego saloon/sedan. #BritishLeyland considered a similar conversion for the smaller #Metro as this prototype at the #BritishMotorMuseum shows. This variant would have been a competitor for the #Volkswagen #Derby, which was based on the #Polo. Small saloons are popular in Ireland, as well as Southern/Eastern Europe, but the UK and most of Northern/Western Europe prefers hatches. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
The #Austin #Montego shared its centre section/doors with the #Maestro hatchback featured yesterday. A longer nose, an extra side pillar and a notchback rear made for a bigger car, although the compromises imposed by sharing gave it a slightly awkward look. The estate version was more handsome. The second photo (both pics #BritishMotorMuseum) shows a modular visual aid used in company meetings to demonstrate the relationship between the Maestro and Montego. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
The 1982 #ECV3 featured yesterday was a showcase for future innovations. What #BritishLeyland actually gave its customers in 1983 was the #Austin Maestro - seen here at the #BritishMotorMuseum in base trim. The #Maestro, alongside the #Metro and #Montego, was part of a semi-successful three-pronged model offensive; the ‘M cars’ were quite well received but didn’t deliver the hoped-for transformational breakthrough in terms of the company’s reputation and sales. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar

A #Mercury #Montego. A large brown two door car from the 1970s. It has fake brown wood applique on the sides. The pictures were taken in 2011
