French Touch | Seminar - The Mockingboard and YM format optimization on Apple II
Having some Apple II time tonight.

One of the things I would have loved to have for my Apple IIe clone when I was a fairly broke teenager was a Mockingboard card.
Really thinking of of getting the ReactiveMicro clone, but I'm wondering if I should wait for a Pico-based re-creation first (something similar to the PicoGUS). Anyone know of if people are working on such a project, because I wouldn't mind sending them money once they have a product.
A fascinating new look at what is basically an Apple II Mockingboard soundcard...for the PC...sold by Mindscape.

"Something is very wrong with the AY-3-8913"
Fascinating article about a very popular soundchip used heavily in the '80s and '90s.

This article was made at the same time than French Touch‘s intro « Digidream 2 ».We wanted to share the issues we ran into when developing this demo, and what we discovered about the General Instruments AY-3-8913 sound chip that is used on most Apple II sound cards. So finally I checked why the #Mockingboard by ReactiveMicro outputs a crappy sound while the Mockingboard 4C (for Apple IIc/IIc+ only) by Ian Kim outputs a perfect sound.
Looks like the RM one uses LM386N-1 to amplify the sound for (4Ω?) speakers while the one by Ian Kim has a dual output: 1 for speakers w/volume control + 1 AUX output with line level audio.
I don't get why the one by ReactiveMicro is so 1980... now I need to figure out how to make it spit an AUX level audio output with my crap electronic skills 😑
