@skedarwarrior it's ok, & thank you for admitting that. just fwiw, fyi, given you acknowledged unfamiliarity in this area, the reason i reacted with some vehemence is that the form of words you used happen to be a common line of attack wielded by despicable RWNJ christofascists as part of their non-stop war against peeps like me. they assert the lie that gender & sex are identical, that therefore by definition there is no such thing as a trans-peep, & that any who claim otherwise are merely making a choice, a "lifestyle-choice", analogous to choosing to eat an apple today or go to the beach tomorrow, a free-will choice. they deny [based on zero knowledge but maximum hatred] that we deserve any rights or protection, coz, again, they assert dishonestly that we are not simply just "us", like a left-hander is simply just being themselves, but instead that we simply make a fatuous disingenuous choice. ergo, many trans peeps react rather adversely when we encounter anyone talking about "choice", even if as in your case it was not done maliciously, coz we fear the commencement of yet another deranged RWNJ attack. fyi. @cstross

Aspasia was the teacher of Socrates, one of the greatest philosophers in history.
In a similar way, although with the big difference that I am not Socrates, my mother, who barely knew how to write, taught me to read when I was 3 years old.
In the many tests they gave me, they asked me how and why I learned to read at that age. And I answered that I saw children going to school and I wanted to go too, I saw my father reading and wanted to read too. Then I had my appendix removed and to keep me entertained my mother decided to indulge me and teach me my first letters.
A month later I was already reading everything I could find: posters, books, magazines, advertisements.
My father loved to read and bought books, entire encyclopedias. When I was 8 he bought a collection of 60 books and then 40 more books at a used book fair. So, between the ages of 8 and 10, I read those 100 books.
From Borges and Unamuno to Kafka and Poe. I read Papillon, Robinson Crusoe, Trafalgar, Cortázar, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Kant, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche.
Many of them weren't to my father's liking, but I liked them. One day he threw away a book with Chinese characters, and I rescued it and read it; it was the Dao De Jing.
Then came books on science, physics, biology, and astronomy.
I studied engineering, medicine, philosophy, and programming.
But it wasn't until I was 47 that I learned I was bipolar and gifted, and not until I was 59 that I learned I was autistic.
But if for a moment you might believe that this brought me success and happiness, I'm telling you it didn't. Rather, I had a worldview that made me a misanthrope, a nihilist, a loner, and a pessimist.

arrant unbridled #transmisia is at the heart of this. detestable transmisics have found their perfect attack vector; weaponise women against themselves via the trope of "there's no such thing as transwomen, they're only dangerous men in dresses". this masterfully evil strategy is so effective;

  • outside sport coz they then can push the lie that transwomen can & should be excluded from all public life as they are "dangerous men aiming to rape & hurt women"
  • inside sport coz they then can push the lie that transwomen, "being men", ipso facto "have physical superiority over women thus rendering competition unfair"
  • coz not only for its "women against women" antipathy-creation, but then coz malign-intent dickswingers also can jump onto the bandwagon carrying matches with jerrycans of petrol, piously claiming their sole interest is "to defend real women"

i just feel so continuously sick in the heart at all this unremitting ignorant hatred. that transmisics have cleverly discovered this new line of attack whose thin veneer of "respectability" has proven impenetrable to so many who otherwise know nothing of transwomen but have allowed themselves to be swayed by the misdirection, only rubs kilograms of salt into the wound.

it is, however, much worse than "just" that. some of us can clearly see the big-picture long-game being played, globally, over this last decade, by ignorance-laden hate-drenched RWNJs & christo-fascists:

  • refute & reject the reality that sex & gender are different, assert unceasingly they are the same
  • therefore, transpeeps do not exist, they are not a real thing, & any who defy this are dangerous radicals who must be destroyed
  • all present-day adult transpeeps must be debunked, depowered [the sick irony of this implicit lie!], constrained, contained, excluded, removed [sport being but one part of this]
  • no future adult transpeeps must be allowed to arise, ergo we shall deny all medical & social support to transkids, force them to undergo the hideous wrong-puberty that will destroy their futures, then those who don't suicide will be dealt with like we now treat their demonic adult peers

    • just imagine the possibilities for actual human progress in areas of genuine need, if this horrific strawman war of hatred had been avoided by decency, empathy, & understanding... + absence of skyfairy-delusionality.
