Flipboard Art & Photo DeskRafael Rodriguez grew up in institutions: Foster care, group homes, juvenile detention, Rikers Island, New York State Prison and as of 2007, the federal system. Here's a brief animation from The Marshall Project about how he met a mentor who he says saved his life through art. "Memo taught me how to draw from inside with emotion. I began to understand how oil painting mimics parts of life the same way a single brushstroke can throw an entire painting off," he says.

StephenI can't find the tooted link, but I opened up this article yesterday to read today (as a post blood test reward) and it's beautifully written and heart-breaking. But also shows the power of D&D and TTRPGs to allow people to better understand themselves and offer the chance to grow and learn. It also demonstrates how inhuman prison systems are. What a waste.
