ICE Detains Family Less Than Two Days After Court Orders Their Release
In Colorado, an Egyptian mother and her five children were detained by federal immigration agents for several hours on Saturday, less than two days after a federal judge ordered their release from the only U.S. family detention center, where they had been imprisoned for 10 months. Hayam El Gamal was arrested when she complied with a requirement that she check in with an ICE office in Denver. Her lawyer says she and her children were put aboard a deportation flight but were removed from the plane before it could leave the U.S., after a federal court granted an emergency injunction. The El Gamal family has already endured the longest known family detention under President Trump’s second term, at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, where they say their mental health suffered as they endured abhorrent medical care, rotten food and a disregard for their religious freedom to practice Islam.

The partial government shutdown over funding for the Department of Homeland Security has caused major staffing shortages within the Transportation Security Administration, an agency under DHS that handles airport security procedures created in response to the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. TSA officers have not been paid for over a month, leading to hundreds of resignations and leaves of absence. As airports are hit with significant delays, Cameron Cochems, the vice president of a union representing thousands of fellow TSA workers, urges travelers to use their time waiting to call their elected representatives “to fund the TSA so we can get our paychecks and we can get back to work.” To fill staffing shortages, DHS has deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to U.S. airports. This comes as ICE is under fire for a hiring surge with minimal vetting and training for new officers. “It really feels like they’re a Band-Aid over a gaping wound. Our officers, they’re not getting paid, and having people that come in that are getting paid just feels like an insult,” says Cochems, who adds that the ultimate goal of the Republican Party is to eliminate union protections and privatize the TSA.

Videos have emerged of ICE agents in plain clothes violently detaining a woman on Sunday inside San Francisco International Airport in front of her daughter. The woman, who is from Guatemala, is seen crying as agents pin her down before dragging and restraining her in a wheelchair. Her daughter was also reportedly in custody as the ICE agents were enforcing a removal order. Bystanders are heard asking the agents to identify themselves, with the officers refusing to say their names or show their badges.

A tremendous amount is wrong with ICE and extreme incompetence is a prominent and important example. So, ICE domestic terrorists just staged a Keystone Cops raid in South Burlington, Vermont. ICE couldn't get its information straight. THE ICE information center, the Law Enforcement Support Center is in the ADJACENT COMMUNITY of Williston, Vermont. ICE doesn't even know its immediate neighbor. Imagine how little it knows about the rest of the United States.
