Oh I know they are just people. I get it confirmed everytime I tune in to Parliamentary sessions. But I don’t buy it. The greater majority of these pollies are University graduates and most have a law or economics degree Therefore, they ought to have been taught critical thinking skills (via assignments, tutorials, etc.).

You are on to something when you talk about donations to political parties, lobby groups and their sweeteners, golden parachutes offers and electoral survival fears. These political animals are playing in a pen full of ferocious nepos, nascent and full blown narcissists, bullies, the self-made and obtuse, how in hell can they find space for doing the job we elect them for —looking after all of us and in our best interests. Plato was right, even philosopher kings turn into raving dictators eventually. So…

It’s all on us then isn’t it? We keep re-electing corrupt numpties instead of injecting new blood (Idealist blood) into the pool. It’s like in animal husbandry, you must be careful about in-breeding and inject new gene sequences into the breed if you wish for healthy animals. It’s on all of us at the urns — if we, as electors, do not exercise clear thinking skill when casting our votes, we’re never going go properly ‘represented’ in Parliament. Yay for the younger polies may you all have a short political career and avoid the corruption of the swamp. Case in point, David Pocock should not stay in the Senate too long, it would be a shame to see him ‘turn’. Staying long enough to do good and teach the newbies and then get out while ‘hot’ and truly a ‘people’s representative’. Mentors, not bullies is what we need.
