"Mallrats," Kevin Smith's second movie, is now 30 years old. Smith talked to The Ringer's Katie Baker about how it changed his career. “[Universal Pictures chairman Tom Pollock] was like, 'This is gonna make a hundred million dollars,'” Smith says. “He was off by 98 million."

So maybe they were all gaslighting poor Willam and nobody could see it, or maybe the set designer couldn't find one of a sailboat and they didn't bother to change the script to match.
