@randahl @osma not only does setting up #Mastodon and properly #SelfHosting it takes quite a lot of resources and time, it's neither easy nor fast to setup either.

I remember @fuchsiii swearing amidst the #JankWare that is Mastodon, because it makes #WordPress look like 30+ years enterprise-grade minimalist #Unix code by comparison.

  • Add to that the cost and complexity: Mastodon isn't a simple #XAMPP-esque application any #WebHoster supports, but needs like a rootful #VPS (with decent #IOPS if one wants to host more than a single user and doesn't flush caches daily!)...

But for #Omar, #Sanders and #AOC, these ain't valid excuses as they have paid full time staff on retainer to do their #SocialMedia and compared to the #AntisocialMedia / #MainstreamSocialMedia, the #Fediverse is way less painful and has way more granular and effective #moderation #tools built-in than even paid tools (i.e. #HootSuite) and paid #API|s ever offered on #Shitter!

@mrmasterkeyboard i am very much in the boat of not liking #crypto LOL. part of my full-on toe dip into the fediverse is my belief that we’re witnessing the pop of the crypto bubble, and i wanted to get on a platform where i feel like the barrier of entry is a certain level of #education and #rational thinking, and i’m hoping that there’s some more real and actionable conversations here vs the mass hysteria on #MainstreamSocialMedia

So, after some time, I can say I really see nothing interesting in Threads as a social medium. There's nothing for me there. I'll just delete it and stick to Instagram and LinkedIn as my mainstream social networks.

Kinda feel a bit lost outside of mainstream social media. The first full week in 12 years I no longer have a twitter account.

And though I feel, freer and calmer using the fediverse, and being able to see the whole internet again (including the huge amount of saved bookmarks I have), rather than being hyper focused in one central place for information.

Its definitely quieter, but the biggest change I have to get used to, is having time again.

my appeal to #YouTube still says "submitted," which is better than when the #censorship #algorithms auto-reject my #bannedVideo appeal, but I know better than to hold my breath that it'll actually be restored. #mainstreamSocialMedia pretty much NEVER sides with "#capitalism unfriendly" content, like #sexualEducation, #sworker advocacy, and #genderEquality that deviates from the "quirky and fashionable gay guy" commercialized aesthetic. (nahtzees and conspiracy theorists are fine, though)
