Anyone remember the days of #flickr #explore? 15-20yr ago I used to get excited to be in it. Now all I see is algorithm, algorithm, probably bots, algorithm.

My recent photo of Sh2-142 The Wizard nebula is doing "well" on flickr. 3815 views, 143 faves, 15 comments. Nice? But, at the risk of offending some people, every single comment there is a generic quasi-spam text that could equally apply to anything else in Explore.

Sigh.

Zuck looks like a rabbit in the headlights in the pic. And how’s the arrogance in this statement: “Meta said it respectfully disagreed with the verdict and was evaluating its legal options.”

Good that the article also mentions:

“In a separate case this week, a jury in New Mexico found Meta violated state law by misleading users about the safety of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and of enabling child sexual exploitation on those platforms.

@ferricoxide It's even worse than #NorthKorea, because Pyongyang doesn't demand you to provide you with all your #AntisocialMedia, #Fingerprints and #DNA nor do they reject people with a valid visa purely out of vibes...

  • The only other nation that legally doesn't guarantee entry with a valid visa is #Japan but unlike the #USA I can't find stories where they rejected entry based off things that would've invalidated a visa anyway (i.e. past ban of entry, criminal conviction or unpaid fines, using forged documents, ...)
    • Whereas the #US always mistreated travelers to the point that people with all the valid permits were treated worse than Inmates in a German Prison at Immigrations, with "trigger-happy" TSA & CPB personnel looking for reasons to flatline them - and that was in the early-to-mid - 2000s!

@tokyo_0 personally I think people should do it with their accounts as they like it, following the rules of their instances.

  • Some mandate certain topics to be #CW'd - ranging from #NSFW to #USpol - whilst others are "As long as it won't get the admin swatted, we're cool! Just don't d0x/swat people or upload copyrighted/CSAM content!" - lenient.

    • In the end the #Fediverse does get it's strengh by said diversity of rules and people…

And that's certainly better than #AntisocialMedia that are prudish and just a pain in the ass to deal with…

@BjornW #ATproto is just a shitty reimplementation of #AntisocialMedia amd #ActivityPub is an open standard that actually allows #SelfHosting & #SelfCustody.

  • Personally, I don't hope, in fact don't want to see such interoperability!
