The Iroquois Point Lighthouse began service on September 20, 1857, over one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, located at the entrance to the St. Mary's River on Lake Superior. After 107 years, it was replaced by an automatic light off Gros Cap, Ontario, in 1964. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
