Sub-second volumetric 3D printing by synthesis of holographic light fields - Nature

A new method is described that uses a periscope to generate high-speed, high-resolution projections of light fields, enabling sub-second volumetric 3D printing of millimetre-scale objects without rotating the sample.

Chinese scientists 3D print tiny items in half a second using holographic light fields — scientists precision fabricate complex millimeter-scale objects in record time

Spinning the light source, instead of the material, has some benefits, too.

Writing weekly on LinkedIn to contextualize the workshops & my #AIart and #algotools #XR dev journey as part of the #inquiry of #humanexperience, part of designing a more cohesive and inclusive #opencommons

I want a future that includes both

Generations of Learning Models, Now In Our Hands and Minds

We all evolve over time with iteration. We learn from each other, take it all in, grow and change based on the experiences, sensory feedback and responses we receive every time we engage the world.

Testing training new models for #opensource 3D asset creation, fun times --

Whose R&D into #volumetric #lightfields #photogrammetry #realitycapture #polycam #micmac #3Dart do you recommend I follow next to learn new tricks for working with glass & crystal, fine art and antiques?

I deal in #antiques & #vintage unique treasures while scanning #3D objects using various methods from #lightfields to #volumetric - this one is a fave find, a handpainted menu from a cafe in Orleans circa 1897

#French #artnouveau #poster #art like this intrigues me this is the first original #handpainted sign I've seen from that era. You can see the detail in brush strokes.

Going up to the store soon with old literary journal & book posters, magazine covers and sheet music from the 1920s

I love the magic around #computationalphotography and #lightfields. A 2D video taken from an iPhone moving on a rail becomes a 3D image on a glasses-free display like the Looking Glass Portrait from Looking Glass Factory.

Taking my self portrait with this method feels like I imagine sitting still for a portrait in the 1800's felt like. We're in the infancy of what media will be someday.

Well, that's rather sad to see.. following their recent acquisition by Google, #Lytro's confirmed that they're closing down.

Lytro is officially shutting down

It's official. Light field company Lytro has announced that it is shutting down just one week after TechCrunch reported that Google was planning to buy the company for $40M. But it seems Google is more interested in the company's employees than its light field technology...
