@brian_greenberg Lemme guess: This happened in #Burma aka. #Myanmar?

My first pieces of pottery made in Laos with clay sourced from a local farm. It was a learning process but I’m reasonably happy with these stupa-inspired shapes

@jilleduffy cute! what are they for?
@Lo They are for beauty and enjoyment and maybe cotton balls?
@jilleduffy well, I wish you enjoyment then :)
@jilleduffy Very nice! How were they fired? Love the speckling!
@miah_johnson_pottery The speckling comes from a high amount of grog (grit, sand) in the clay reacting with the glaze. The potters at the farm where I buy the clay fire for me. (I'm not set up for it and haven't quite learned enough about firing to do my own yet.) They use in a gas kiln to cone 9. The head potter told me the bisque firing takes only 7 hours, which seems really fast to me
@jilleduffy nice! We fire to cone 10 / reduction in our propane fired double chamber 🙂 We're getting ready too fire again next month!
@miah_johnson_pottery Wow! Very cool. Is this a skill you learned as an adult or did you grow up around potters?
@jilleduffy I started doing pottery last year, I got lucky and found a studio run by a 80 year old master potter who has had well over 30 apprentices. It's the perfect learning environment. His last apprentice runs the studio and has become my best friend. I practically live at the studio and pottery has become my life 🤣
@jilleduffy Those are excellent! The shape, the colors and textures... good work!

@jilleduffy

That glaze has a delightful texture that makes me think of lichen.

Ever consider making a gaiwan?

@futurebird @jilleduffy oh damn I'd buy one
@lumecolca @futurebird What a nice thing to say! I'm not at the point of selling any of my pieces, but maybe one day
@futurebird Hmm, I don't know if I could get this particular clay to be thing and delicate enough. I could try though!
@jilleduffy I LOVE the glaze you have on these and the stupa shape. I took a whole art history class on stupas. 😊
@jilleduffy they are beautiful
@Mactonex Thank you! It takes a while to get a feel for new clay, and then learn how it trims...and how it glazes 😅

@jilleduffy

They are lovely!

@GenXLife Thank you! I'm still getting a feel for how this new clay moves and reacts, so it's been a learning process
