I am looking ahead to the start of 2026 and the publication of my third story as part of the Pearl Prize. As an award that platforms lgbtqia writers here in Melbourne, it has a bit of a special significance for me.

I am very humbled & proud to announce that once again, I have been short-listed for The Pearl Prize.

It means a lot to be included alongside other LGBTQIA writers and explore elements of Queer experience. I especially enjoyed writing for this year's theme, 'Turning the names inside out', and I can't wait to share more.

Some days, being out in public feels exhausting.

You’re just trying to exist; get your groceries, grab a coffee, go for a walk. But the looks come anyway.

When you’re trans, queer, disabled, a person of color, or just visibly “different” in any way, you start noticing these looks. You feel them. It’s not paranoia.

Luna knows this feeling all too well. And so do many of us. It can feel like you’re carrying a sign you didn’t ask for. Some days you can brush it off. Other days, it chips away at you, moment by moment.

We wanted to make this comic for everyone who has walked through the world feeling watched instead of seen. For everyone who’s had to build armor just to go outside. You shouldn’t have to. And yet, here we are.

You’re not alone. You are worthy of safety, peace, and comfort in your body and in public spaces. And one day, we’ll make that world together. 💜🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈✊🏽

✨ Does this resonate with you? Drop a comment, we’d love to hear from you.

✨ Follow us for more comics that speak to our everyday realities. 🌈

Behind the story: Shadows of the Digital Dream - Narrative Curiosity

A behind the scenes look ath my process and ideas writing for the Pearl Prize, emphasizing the challenge of crafting a concise story within a 1500-word limit. They explore themes of queerness, AI, and the impact of capitalism on community, highlighting character development and the importance of representation within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Ahead of the Pearl Prize next weekend and the publication of my story 'Shadows of the Digital Dream' I took some time to reflect on the importance of LGBTQIA stories and characters. #LGBTQIA #LGBTIQA #LGBTQIAStories #Storytelling #Writing #Trans

The importance of sharing Queer stories - Narrative Curiosity

The essence of good writing often stems from personal experience, especially for queer authors who depict LGBTQIA challenges. Their stories validate individual journeys and foster community acceptance. While mainstream representation is growing, opportunities for visibility remain limited. Ultimately, weaving these narratives into diverse genres normalizes LGBTQIA identities, fueling broader societal understanding and empathy.

It's official! I am finalist for the 2025 Pearl Prize as part of next year's Midsumma festival here in Melbourne. It is another huge step in my journey as a writer after being published at the start of the year. As the memoir that has resonated with me the most 'Yes, You are trans Enough" by Mia Violet is also an opportunity to share more of my story as it draws out these connections and helps drive our own reflections. #Trans #MiaViolet #LGBTQIA #LGBTQIAStories

The most important lesson: “Yes, You are trans Enough” - Narrative Curiosity

The memoir "Yes, You are Trans Enough" by Mia Violet resonates deeply with my own journey as a transgender person. Mia's relatable experiences of self-doubt, unsupportive parents, and societal expectations mirror my many of my own struggles. Her candid storytelling and insights on gender identity provide validation and guidance for self-reflection.
