This is how I originally got into #OpenBSD and one of the reasons I now use it so heavily (aside from the security & best-practices focus.)

In the late 90's, I had installed #NetBSD on a #Macintosh #LCIII. In the late aughts, I had a PowerMac G4 that I wanted to run haproxy on, so tried to install NetBSD. I was struggling with Open Firmware, trying to partition, etc., so I decided to try OpenBSD. It was was easy, painless, and had an haproxy package. Ran it for years.

No matter how often I install #OpenBSD the installer is dead simple and works well. Gotta say thank you to the dev's here. :openbsd: Besides the fact that the code is really clean 🙂

Retro Friends, is there anything I should watch out for with with regard to to electrolytic caps vs. tantalum caps? It seems like they are effectively interchangeable.

Interested in working as it should rather thanbeing period accurate.

I'm starting to buy tools and supplies to repair my #Vintage #Apple #Macintosh #LCIII by replacing the electrolytic caps.

I am considering the tantalum cap kit from Consoles5.com.

@jhx Currently just #OpenBSD & #macOS, though I've got a bunch of older hardware I'd like to try #NetBSD on again. It's been at least 25 years since I last installed NetBSD on my #Macintosh #LCIII.)

I do intend to start spinning up VMs for #FreeBSD, NetBSD, and some Linux distros for #MLVWM development & testing, but I wouldn't really be daily-driving them.

I got a very basic BBS up and running on my Mac LCIII. Not much there yet, but give it a try! It's running Subtext by @jcs . The address is m68k.club:6800. The website is also written with HTML 3.2, so it should render on retro hardware. #retrocomputing #mac #lciii #bbs

Prototype of a MicroSD extension holder for the #Macintosh #LCII & #LCIII.

Made with #OpenSCAD of course.

Disregard the color, I need to get the proper RAL filament.

To my surprise the clip holds perfectly inside the FDD bracket clip cutout and seems to be strong enough.

The SD extender fits inside as well…

I finally managed to recap this #LCIII !

And it survived 🤩

Cleaned up the floppy…

Only the PSU left to recap.

Speaking of recaping, this LC-III should really be next, oh my it didn't look that way last time I opened it…
