I just found out about KeyCon, a mechanical keyboard convention happening in DC tomorrow.

I would 100% be there if it weren't for the ridiculous birthday parade clusterf*cking up the city. They picked the wrong day for this thing.

Quite the rare item on eBay right now: an early Amiga 2000 dealer demo unit (unserialed, apparently only 200 of these were made) featuring the fabled Amiga keyboard with Cherry MX keyswitches and red 'A'miga keys.
I first heard about these many years ago, but have never seen one pass through.

Commodore produced an initial run of 200 NTSC Amiga 2000s for dealers as demo units and were not supposed to be sold. The motherboard is revision 3.9 of the Haynie/Fisher design with Buster tower for the Zorro II slots.
This morning, I transplanted a new leafspring and leaves for one keyswitch on my Apple Extended Keyboard II. I did not need to solder - it was just a one-for-one swap of the keyswitch internals.
The toughest part was putting everything back together. So many delicate parts!
The "surgery" was a success.
Difficulty rating 7/10 (would not do again).

I went down the rabbit hole of watching people on YT disassemble, lube, and reassemble Alps key switches on their Apple Extended Keyboard II. Seems doable, right?
So... I took apart *one* Alps key switch (the Caps Lock one) and, wow, it is so intricate. Putting it back together again correctly was an exercise in patience, precision and frustration.
Nope. Never going to do that again.
fresh #38c3 Flausen-idea:
a #TastaurTasting location, where people could Realworld-test and feel all kinds of diffenent #Keyboards / #KeySwitches live & in Action at one place
would you lend us your beloved key/keyboard?
If yes => comment, which ones could you contribute? (as exotic as better)
something i noticed with zeal cickiez:
its probably a negligible thing but the click leaf when resting pushes on the stem causing a slight angle on the keycap. in the photo you can kinda see the small tilt compared to the zelio next to it.
Craziness. On our trip to Memphis last week, we wandered into this quaint little boutique in midtown called The Wren's Nest. My wife and daughter set about trying on French dresses and such, while I wandered about idly, trying to entertain myself.
As I poked about the shelves, I came upon a display of four extreme-level custom keyboards and I've never found such an out of place treasure, completely out of the blue!
I re-enact my surprise encounter in this short video. Enjoy. 🙂

The owner's son put these together, apparently, including an also awesome board at the POS system on the back desk.
Amazing keyboards!
