I keep jumping into conversations of other tech writers that are job hunting after my quick turn around a couple of months ago.

Folks are desperate for a secret way to crack this market. They are desperate for a way to blame themselves in order to find the thing they are doing wrong that's stopping them from getting interviews, much less offers.

I keep saying that it comes down to luck, but nobody likes that answer. They want something they can do, that's in their control.

I wish I could offer them something. It's just not the case.

University of Michigan: Can a tweet become a job offer? U-M research suggests yes. “Social media promotion can boost visibility and job outcomes for early-career scholars, especially women. New analysis from researchers at the University of Michigan School of Information suggests a single post can significantly increase a candidate’s visibility. In some cases, it may even land them a job.”

The Guardian | ‘Completely horrible’: UK job hunters share frustration with AI interviews by Jane Clinton

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

Nearly half of UK job seekers (47%) have now faced an AI‑driven interview, and 30% say they have abandoned a hiring process because of it, according to a Greenhouse survey of 2,950 active applicants. Respondents describe the experience as awkward, impersonal and often humiliating: a university student likened it to “talking to a mirror” with no human feedback, a scientist felt “not even sure anybody watched the interview,” a marketing consultant found the format “completely horrible for the autistic brain,” and a project manager noted the AI’s inability to recognise pauses or body language. Many interviewees complain that questions are generic, time‑limited, and that feedback is vague, while the technology’s one‑way nature leaves candidates unable to engage the employer. The overall picture is a growing frustration with AI interview tools that many feel need a human touch to be effective.

This is sad to read, and I wonder if there is a vicious cycle going on?

Employers have too many applicants for each job for them to have the time to review them properly, so they use some BS AI that just rejects most of the candidates and doesn't even let them know they've been rejected.

So each applicant has to make up for it by applying for hundreds of jobs, making employers even more swamped.
