glad this is coming together; a year ago when I was in NYC Pete Rushefsky met me and was telling me a trove of handwritten scores from cimbalom player Joseph Moskowitz had been uncovered in DC. I'll probably speak at this zoom about the old NY klezmer characters who appear in these scores.

"Growing up, most “#Jewish #music” classes I encountered were basically a teacher standing at the front of the room saying, “#BobDylan is Jewish,” then playing a Bob Dylan song. Then: “#CaroleKing is Jewish,” followed by a Carole King song. And so on for 45 minutes. People always seemed to enjoy it, but I’d leave wondering: OK, this person happened to be Jewish — but what’s Jewish about the art?

So, I started asking people: What is #Jewishmusic?

I heard every possible answer. Anything in #Hebrew. Anything from #Israel. Music based on the #Torah. #GeorgeGershwin. #LeonardCohen. A #Jew playing music.
