@alainamartin for me, personally:

- Meta has a terrible track record of human rights.
- Threads' privacy policy allows them to sell posts, media, and profiles from other instances without consent.
- If they ever fully open federation for all accounts, the load would cripple most smaller instances. Fediverse server applications are mostly unoptimized.
- Threads allows forms of bigotry that I can't tolerate. For example, Libs of Tiktok is a highly-popular hate account hosted by threads.

Funny: #InstagramThreads claims it blocks social.librem.one, kirishima.cloud, retro.social and others on account of "privacy policy" (whose?).

Probably just because no privacy policy can be found.

The retro.social "privacy policy" (ToS really) currently looks like this. It's funny to imagine which of these sentences helps in getting blocked by #Facebook Inc., though probably the block preceded them.

(I beg you not to brandish the CFAA as if it were a good thing.)

I briefly considered joining #InstagramThreads for the tea, but then I remembered that living outdoors with total strangers in a foreign country was less stressful for me than being in a sorority where have multiple socials is an unspoken requirement. Also if you want the tea without an account, there's a website for that

Meanwhile at #InstagramThreads.

Facebook's app uses push notifications to promote some local posts. Likely self-preferencing, hi #DMA.

threads.net still a top 5k domain comparable to mastodon.social in size.

One happy user in Japan got a lot of interactions thanks to a boost from the fedibird.com admin. (No mention of considering moving there.)

Several people confused by nameless comments. (No moral rights for the authors of the comments, it seems? Have fun, #copyright lawyers.)

Apologists: "A giant corporation with billions of users is better positioned to foster a diverse community".

Reality: moderation already makes "embarrassing" mistakes, by their own admission, despite a federated community comparable to two mid-sized Mastodon instances (1 for USA and 1 for Japan).

More technosolutionism follows in the same spirit.
