On plant based meat.

For those of us that eat meat, there's really nothing like a good hamburger with an 80/20 ground beef patty and a great brioche bun. A good grind of beef and a good bun are really all that's needed to make a satisfying hamburger. The extra ingredients are enjoyable, incidental, and not always needed, at least in my opinion.

Today I had an Impossible burger. Something that I have periodically. And, I enjoyed it. It has a good flavor, nice mouth feel, and is satisfying.

But I don't think that it should be measured against a beef-based burger. Similarly, a beef-based burger should not be compared with a patty made from pork, turkey, or chicken. They are all a different sandwich.

So, we should embrace that there are good meat alternates available that have numerous benefits when compared to meat, even, as in my case, when the alternate is only periodic.

Today a friend took us to lunch at a fave place in downtown #KC. I spotted a #vegan bowl on the menu that really spoke to me. And dang, it was good. Vegan food doesn’t have to be boring. ( @Jillianmarisa and I are #pescetarian / #vegetarian)

Maybe this is a California thing, but I am seeing more and more places offer #BeyondMeat or #ImpossibleMeat choices on their menus, and it isn't just small local restaurants, though they are too. Last year I saw #HabitBurger add an Impossible veggie burger option (they still have their own alternative) and #PandaExpress add Beyond "orange chicken" (and run a lot of promotions for it).

Any Vegans, or those trying, having issues with methylcellulose that’s found in meat alternatives? Take a poll below.

I noticed that any time I have something with methylcellulose, regardless of brand, I get the same results. Something I hope they fix.

Here’s an article that talks about it https://vegfaqs.com/beyond-burgers-upset-stomach/

Why Beyond Burgers Cause Upset Stomach or Diarrhea (Side Effects)

As a whole, vegans generally love Beyond Burgers. And while most people have no issues with them (assuming the Beyond Meat is not expired), the most common complaint I’ve seen is of people complaining about stomach issues after having a Beyond Burger. For some it’s excess gas and bloating, for others it’s even diarrhea. While […]

It turns out if you just throw a couple pieces of bacon, 1 cubed sweet potato, 1x brick of ground #ImpossibleMeat, some sliced garlic, 1x can of diced tomatoes w/ green chilies, salt, and pepper, you end up with a pretty bodacious breakfast mash and/or nacho material. I'm going to try again sans bacon to see how it turns out as strictly vegetarian (cuz cholesterol), but even as is, this was pretty dope! :o #cooking #adultingishard #diet
