So the second day of school in #1998 began with an about face, trudging back down the hill, across the street to the bus stop, and going home to figure out what to do with this unexpected #snow day.

And there was a little bit of #adventure in the air, suited up to mount the snow banks and the Metro there and back. But it was as the afternoon wore on that the #survival #instincts kicked in.

However, we have now scaled up those primitive, aggressive animal instincts by feeding them into global, hyper-efficient macro systems—like AI targeting algorithms and automated drone warfare. What used to be a basic survival instinct is now a global kill-chain. If we don't break free from these macro systems, our own evolutionary baggage will destroy us.

4. The Macro Systems and the "Animal Part" of Us
"The humans among us must free ourselves from certain of the macro systems which seem to have emerged from the animal part of who we are. What once made us strong can now make us weak."
As animals, humans have primal instincts for survival, tribalism, and dominance over resources or enemies. Historically, those ruthless, aggressive traits helped our species survive and become "strong."
