We're renovating our porch roof. After removing the aluminum siding, we're concerned that the painted wood underneath, which is peeling, may be covered with lead paint, and that the dust and flakes may contaminate our garden and house. We're planning to test the paint this morning.
Has anyone discovered lead paint while working on their house exterior? Got any tips or resources?
Finished painting our house this week. Learned a few things, like our local PPG store has the best deals on good exterior paint.
I realized after looking at the finished product that a significant influence on color choices was a desire to quite intentionally choose colors that not everyone will like. So we ended up with 2 shades of camo, and I think it blends into the local landscape pretty well.
#LifeHack today. I have a years-old barely used 1l can of paint: Zinsser 1-2-3 Bull's Eye. I cracked it open; it was good! No funny smells at all; no signs of mould or bacteria. Just some expected separation between binder and pigment: it needed a shake. I'm not abouot to lug this to a shop to have it agitated; not in this snow!
So, I wrapped the can in several bath towels, taped with packing tape, and put it in a clothes dryer, along with a bunch of clothes (no heat, air fluff).
Some contractors left behind a 3.78 gallon can of unused paint. "Dulux Diamond", in white.
I used it today to paint an off-white bathroom door.
Two coats and you can still faintly see the old paint a little bit in places.
... and this occasion marks the only time in my life I will ever have had anything to do with Dulux.
