@bellamy Translation text of this remarkable photo in Taiwan. Huge thanks to @bellamy, for the evocative post. Smell is such an important travel sense.

Prior to that I’d only smelled tree dogwood in Virginia and the Carolinas.

β€œDogwood is blooming, and it tries to remember the strong smell that floats with the wind. Some say it smells like gas. The smell is hard to describe, but it will become a deep memory.” 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

When doing high-altitude mountain #fieldwork in Hehuanshan, #Taiwan, I would recommend you don't pick a fight with the endemic rose species Rosa transmorrisonensis. I'm still pulling thorns out of my limbs nearly 4 weeks later on from trying to navigate through a dense patch! 😣 πŸ˜…

I can't believe its already been a week since we returned home from the #Taiwan trip to study high-altitude #alpine vegetation @StirlingScience. What an incredible experience I had, and I still can't get over the sheer abundance of endemic species we encountered in the mountains!

I'm exceptionally grateful to everyone who facilitated my joining the team, & to the talented researchers at #NPUST who hosted us.

Today our alpine vegetation fieldwork took us to the summit of Hehuanshan East Peak at 3417m. This is the second highest mountain I've ever climbed! What a fantastic place to be working, with stunning views when we emerged from the cloud 🀩

Today's high mountain fieldwork at Hehuanshan brought all-day rain & extremely challenging working conditions at 3300m altitude. But I'm still smiling at all the incredible treeline vegetation & alpine plants covering these steep slopes 😍 Just look at this awesome krumholz Himalayan juniper (Juniperus squamata)! Today's photos of a bloke in red jacket staring vacantly at the floor (aka doing vegetation surveys) πŸ˜‚ Pausing for thought in the bamboo grassland. With @alistairjump

I'm SO EXCITED to be experiencing so many wonderful new high-altitude alpine plants for the very first time during our mountain fieldwork at Hehuanshan, Taiwan. Can't get enough of the Formosan Juniper (Juniperus formosana), growing at the treeline! 🀩 With @alistairjump

Fantastic to kick off high-altitude mountain fieldwork with Catherine Mercer for her PhD project studying alpine plant ecology in Hehuanshan, Taiwan. Absolutely superb views today, even when the rain came in later on! With @alistairjump @StirlingScience & Prof Jan-Chang Chen & team from NPUST.
