A visual check shows it has a rotten heart, the canopy shows it’s struggling, it’s leaning and roped up ‘just in case’. Fourteen years of research in Taiwan’s high mountains with some really gifted PhD and MSc students have helped us understand how high altitude ecosystems are responding to climate change. It was a pretty spectacular morning for fieldwork here in Taiwan’s high mountains. The first team was out with the drones early on to get the images needed to assess habitat variation at the landscape scale.
