Just like #Brazil, #GregorysGirl can no longer speak to me as a movie I can identify with because now I recognize the fundamentally toxic nature of the relationship the male lead has with what I now understand is the literal object of their desire, as they see the female lead.

I wasn't any better, but at least now I know better and try to be better.

#GregorysGirl fails horribly in the opening scene, and as part of my amends I have to call it out as violence against women.

If you consider this anything less, consider how you would feel if you saw unknown people staring in at you out of the darkness without your consent.

That is a type of violence that can cause lasting harm through trauma.

It's not innocent, at best it's selfish and that kind of selfish disregard is violence.
