The other day I watched 'Frogs' from 1972, expecting a capital B of B-movies:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068615/

Well, it was that, but also not. Some of the shots, in particular in the beginning, were quite good.

The movie was a kind of "nature slasher" where Nature gets back at humans, especially the ones harming animals or acting carelessly.

The story was ok, but sometimes things happened that just made me laugh. For instance, they gathered for dinner only to find a snake hanging from the chandelier. So obviously the head of the family draws his revolver and shoots the snake, only to berate everyone else for not sitting down at the table.

Also, it had a rather young Sam Elliott who of course also then had gorgeous hair.

The effects were.. well, obviously a portion of them were production assistants tossing frogs in front of the camera, but they were practical and thus moved right and were lighted like everything else in the scene.

I think it's a movie with which you can make a great drinking game.

Watching 'Air Force One' with the 12yo, and the terrorists have just taken the plane:

"It's just Die Hard on a plane??"

Maybe we watch too many movies.

I am really looking fwd to the new #Narnia movie, #TheMagiciansNephew, coming to #Netflix.

Despite being written by #Christian author #CSLewis, reading these books in gr 2 or 3 are what convinced me that I didn’t need to be a Christian.

I recently watched the theatrical cut of 'Aliens' (which turns 40 this year): https://imdb.com/title/tt0090605/

I've seen it many times and it is pretty damn solid, still.

Tonight I watched the extended edition, and, boy, did it feel long: So many scenes just dragged on and on. There was an early scene from LV-426 where Newt's parents discover the spaceship with the eggs, and it had a strange TV-movie vibe to it.

There was a scene where the LV-426 kids are scolded for playing in the air ducts, so we know how Newt knew to hide there. Who cares? We don't need to be told, and in fact it is cooler if Newt didn't know in advance but was just a resourceful kid who found out.

I watched 'Now you see me' the other day: https://imdb.com/title/tt1670345/

I think there is a bug on IMDb, because when I visit the link above it shows a score of 7.2.

It's a bit as if the Ocean's franchise had a love child with Moonfall.

I just watched 'Screamers' which is the US cut (with a new intro) of 'L'isola degli uomini pesce', with the English title 'The Island of the Fishmen': https://imdb.com/title/tt0081467/

It was interesting with decent practical effects. The story was, well, ok, but the sets, locations, and cinematography was pretty good. Pretty typical for an Italian-US co-production. The movie reminded me of another Italian-US co-production, 'The Atlantis Interceptors', but was better.

The US version originally didn't have the new intro and was released as 'Something Waits In The Dark' but sold poorly. Prime Video seems to have gotten the name wrong as 'Island of the Fisherman'. (It's always a good sign when movies have multiple names.)

The movie is directed by Sergio Martino who would later release a mash-up of 'The Terminator', 'Blade Runner', and 'Over the Top' called 'Hands of Steel' using the pseudonym Martin Dolman.

Another connection between the two movies was Claudio Cassinelli who was the male lead in this movie and had a smaller role in Hands because he died in a helicopter crash during production.

'Prison' from 1987 is pretty good and has some well-made practical effects: https://imdb.com/title/tt0095904/

Alas for some reason my DVD version has rather bad audio and no CC or subtitles which really hurts the experience.
