October 8, 2013: It was a cold morning, but warmed up once I started moving. I hiked with Pivot Dude all day. Thanks to him, I was able to get this picture.
The Grayson Highlands were beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. The prettiest section of trail so far. We didn't really want to go back into the trees at the end.
At the shelter we tried starting a fire, but there was only wet rhododendron wood, which, as you might expect, didn't burn. Oh well, at least The Lorax was written in the privy for entertainment while on the throne.

October 7, 2013: It rained overnight, and was still raining when I woke up. As I was eating breakfast it started to taper off. I waited for it to end before heading out. It was overcast and foggy all morning, and the sun only came out just before I got to the shelter. The colors were in full force in the highlands. Very pretty.
