I am extremely proud to be a citizen of Orange County Virginia today. Last night’s well-run, welcoming joint board of supervisors and planning commission meeting was perfect in every way and an example of deep democracy and community in action. The Board and Planning Commission asked hard questions of the utility representatives. The Orange School Board chair spoke to register the 5-0 board opposition to Valley Link. 85 or so citizens spoke knowledgeably, compassionately, and briefly about the impacts known and unknown of the high voltage line on habitats forestry farms children soils septics bees homes and views. The field house was full, staff and police welcoming, and the technology worked, including the live stream. And the villains of the show, Valley Link field engineers and p r peeps, played their parts to perfection. To the substance of the issue: this is NOT a right left red blue divisive issue. This IS an informed citizenry who will NOT participate in a colonialism model: of extracting power in Ohio and routing it the long way round to Northern Virginia. This rural county is not interested in corporations extracting wealth in perpetuity from rural areas and transferring it to utilities, data centres and tech AI firms in Northern Virginia for a 10-20 maybe 50!year life along the way. Conservation and stewardship values of HOME rejected a blatant “taking”. Common Weal was on display in the Commonwealth last night. I am so grateful to call this HOME.

Write Letters to Virginia Voters · Vote Forward

Join Vote Forward and volunteers across the country to write letters to voters in Virginia! At the event you’ll learn more about how to get involved with Vote Forward, the Virginia redistricting referendum, and what kinds of messages resonate with voters. On April 21, 2026, Virginia will hold a statewide special referendum in which voters can approve or reject a ballot measure on redistricting. **If passed, the measure would amend the state Constitution to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections.** The measure is intended to counter gains Republicans are making in other states via their own mid-cycle partisan redistricting effort. Crucially, control of the U.S. House in 2026 depends on the outcome of this ballot measure as it directly impacts how many seats will be competitive for Democrats overall. The ballot measure is temporary, ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census. For the Virginia redistricting referendum campaign we’ll be testing a new innovation: **combining civic outreach with access to community support resources.** These letters encourage eligible voters to participate in the referendum while also providing access to a Vote Forward volunteer-run community helpline connecting recipients with charitable and government resources. Recipients can call or text to reach trained Vote Forward volunteers who will: - Express empathy and listen to concerns - Provide referrals to relevant support resources - Encourage civic participation and voting The most common question we receive at Vote Forward is: "what should I write?" This letter writing event is the personalized, in depth answer to that question. Vote Forward staff will help you craft an effective, personal message to voters.Whether you’re writing letters for the first time or you’re an experienced letter writer looking to refine your message, this event is for you! RSVP today, and we’ll let you know how to join this event. Invite your friends and family, too and encourage them to become letter writers this year! Never written letters before? No problem! Visit [votefwd.org/instructions](https://votefwd.org/instructions) for all the information you need, and sign up for an account at [votefwd.org](https://votefwd.org). Video: VA Gov. Abigail Spanberger Hits the Airwaves Urging Virginians to Vote YES on Redistricting Amendment - Blue Virginia

Good to see Gov. Abigail Spanberger cutting an ad for the redistricting amendment. As Gov. Spanberger says: “I’m voting YES on Virginia’s redistricting amendment. It’s directly in response to what other states decide to do — and a president who says he’s, quote, ‘entitled’ to more Republican seats before this year’s midterms. Our approach is […]
