@Phew. Just set up my donation links through #givebutter . I've updated my #profiles everywhere I could find to help folks find BT Free's donations. I'm incredibly nervous. Not sure if I'm more nervous that no one will donate or worse that people will donate. I've also added these to Peertube and Castopod. And since it seems folks are wildly agree, I will be announcing donations during #FsF #episodes now as well.
Thank you to everyone who have supported me thus far. The absolutely incredible community is more than my wildest dreams could have imagined. I've started BT Free NonProfit to help support all of us and help this amazing experiment continue to grow.

Jonathan Kamens 86 47P.P.S. When I made this donation this morning through #GiveButter, there was a checkbox on the form to indicate whether I wanted the target org to be able to contact me. I unchecked that checkbox. Nevertheless, I received an email from the org two hours later, at the email address I had given to GiveButter, which I'd never given to anyone else.
So in addition to my other complaints about GiveButter, I'm also pissed that they give organizations people's email addresses even when asked not to. 😡

Also, the amount of effort required on #GiveButter to just give them the amount of money you said you wanted to give them is offensive.
After clicking the "Keep my $180 one-time gift" button, it opened another pop-up which asked me if I wanted to give a "tip" to GiveButter and if I wanted to cover the processing costs of my donation. Both of these were checked by default! It took multiple not-entirely-obvious steps to undo them both.
Terrible user experience, would not recommend GiveButter.

I'm donating to a charity through givebutter.com, and after I indicated that I wanted to make a one-time $180 donation, it popped up this prompt.
This boils down to, "If you agree to donate twice as much money as you said you wanted to, it'll have twice the impact!" which is tautological, but presented in a way which IMO is a dark pattern.
This is gross.
