What if, hypothetically: users stopped gravitating towards hegemonic closed source Saa-Services & continued preferring to actively co-create libre/free #OpenSource alternatives.

Like, y'know the people were doing on the Internet, back in the 1960s when it was still called NLS (oNLine System)?

That we: participated in RFCs, & interoperable implementations of #protocols, not brand names?

That we: collectively cultivated ways to redistribute wealth & resources so that the most disenfranchised among us, were no longer sleeping under freeway overpasses, starving while those with obscene amounts of money alpha test "driverless cars" because, in their twisted world view: it is somehow verboten that a rich person pay an actual human chauffeur to drive them around if they don't want to focus on the road?

That maybe we start treating the commons as what they are & take better care of them?

What would be the high speed maglev rail for online discourse?

Do you think it should continually be privatized when predecessors (#NNTP) & underlying infrastructure, e.g. as #TCP/IP & #DNS, #SMTP, #HTTP are libre/free open source & distributed, with multiple interoperable implementations, by design?

How about we have an Internet:

Without another #Reddit, or FB/Meta/IG, no #IBM & ITT & AT&T & DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, & Exxon, no Amazon or Oracle, Micro$oft ever again?
