If the Ludii general game system (https://ludii.games/) was better suited to include card games (they are working on it), then I'd already know what reconstructed rules I'd try to convert to Ludii to test them. Maybe I'll find other IT application ideas for my subjects in time.

On the other hand the example given e.g. by archaeologist Walter Crist about a potential Roman game from the museum in Heerlen (Limburg), and testing a hypothesis with the help of a game AI, makes a lot of sense.

A few days ago the COST action "Computational Techniques for Tabletop Games Heritage" had its kick-off meeting in Leiden, NL.

While I believe in the potential of this network, I also see the threshold difficulty of getting the IT folks and the ones with backgrounds in cultural history (archaeology etc.) to collaborate. For instance, I'm not used to even consider AI approaches to my usually philological research on games.

I was at the main cabin of a state park this past weekend, and found this unusual #gameTable. I presume it was for some particular game, like #dominos or #mahjong. They playmat looks like it has been played on and loved a lot. Anyone have any ideas?

One day I will have the money that makes it possible to own something like this.

These look awesome.
