It’s a long weekend. Your #Atari 8-bit is ready to use. #Fujinet is connected, BobTerm is loaded up, and you call #SouthernAmis #BBS to relive the days of message bases, downloading warez, and connecting with other Atari A8 enthusiasts.

@tschak I think people would be more interested if they could purchase a #PC version of the #FujiNet

I figured that news of a #PC version of #FujiNet for vintage PCs would have generated some buzz.

Nope. It's #@($%@_ impossible to get the word out.

#FujiNet is a #WiFi Network Adapter for #retrocomputing and #retrogaming platforms.

The #RS232 version of the #FujiNet can be plugged up to any vintage PC, like a #PCjr.

oh wow... the #fujinet guys were able to get the #atari800 emulator to talk netsio! i don't need to use altirra to test fujinet in emulation anymore. it's an option now. yay! :)
so cool that apc added SAM to #Fujinet PC. it works on my #atari800xl connected via SIO2PC-USB cable. i just need to have a long cable for audio from my PC to be piped out of the TV speakers.

#Atari8bit #FujiNet folks: does a given programming language /have/ to expose #XIO in order for me to be able to use the extended functions of FujiNet, such as JSON parsing?

I see Draper Pascal exposes XIO; Kyan Pascal and Advan BASIC don't.

@tschak Hey, you got me excited!

Sometimes I get disheartened when I post something cool and it seems like I get crickets in response. I wonder if you could reach out to any retro youtubers who could do a review?

@tschak I don't think I saw anything over at VCFed.Org. Or on Reddit.

I've found that getting the word out about an upgrade or a project is easy. Getting people engaged is the difficult part. I've come to realize that I do things for the personal satisfaction of doing them, and if they don't take off or go viral that's fine. People tend to concentrate on their own projects or own corners of the universe, so getting their attention even for something very worthy requires effort and luck.

@mbbrutman @tschak

I only really learned about Fujinet from talks about it at VCF. But the part about doing it for the love of it is a good one.

There are a lot of people who are fascinated and appreciative that you did "retro thing X" without any plans to ever use your thing X.

Tons of people seem interested in MartyPC, very few people may ever use it. The whole reason I made the web version was because it was a lot easier to convince someone to click a link than it is to install and download something.

I'd like to look into support for Fujinet in MartyPC. I think it simply hasn't been on the PC world's radar.

@tschak I think this would be fun on my PCjr or a Tandy 1000
@robdaemon meant for any resource constrained PC.
@tschak oh totally, the PCjr just came to mind immediately as it's the most resource constrained machine I have (plus the better than CGA graphics)
@tschak At a time in the past, I would have jumped in excitement for these types of announcements.
I think a big chunk of the retrocomputing hobbyist population is getting their attention and time focused on other real life concerns -- weaker job market, higher cost of living, and the need to provide for basic necessities and spending more quality time with loved ones. The amount of time I've been able to spend for my retrocomputing hobby has significantly dropped down.

@tschak I need to get one of these pre-built to enhance my experience on the PC side of things.

@captainarcee Nobody has offered to make them yet. The hardware info is here: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-hardware/tree/master/RS232/RS232-Rev000

We don't make them, but rather work with vendors so they can make them for their communities. We also don't ask for any licensing or compensation.
