Useful free software
I’m excluding any time-limited free trials, the software has to be actually free. This is specifically free for personal use, there may be fees incurred in commercial settings for some.
Many of the images used here are sourced from websites of the software.
Blender (3D modelling software)
A very popular 3D modelling and animation software with capabilities comparable to commercial software such as Autodesk Maya. Some years ago the software had major revamp and it receives fairly frequent updates. There are also a wealth of plugins that can expand the functionality. It does however have a learning curve which can be quite intimidating to beginners, but there are lots of tutorials and guides available online.
A number of indie films/shorts have been made using this software.

A handy software, also available in-browser. Allows for all your brainstorming needs without subscriptions, very customisable. Frequently updated.
Free audio editing software. I haven’t used this myself in a good while because I use Adobe Audacity but you can’t exactly go wrong with free!

Very useful to work out what is taking up space on your hard drives, the software visualises your file storage as lists and blocks. See my guide for this software.
Popular media player, capable of playing various formats of videos and DVDs (disc playback hardware required). There are also a gallery of user-made skins to customise how the player looks.

Gibts als #dosbox game im browser (ohne speichern) und als dosbox download. Geht easy in Ubuntu.
Wie heisst der Protagonist?
Nice, I managed to slog my way through the bottom floor of that building, and got a fancy sword for my main character, but there's another room full of chests on the other side and I can't find a way in. There's no secret gaps that I can find. Is it just there to troll me or is there a way in? Gah!
I don't know how it took me so long to see that dragon town north of the castle. I just kept wandering around not knowing what to do next, then suddenly the castle is there???
Also I don't know if this is a bug or a secret, but you can take a shortcut through that wall. Cool!
I found the game. It was #DarkPhear and I swear I spent so long grinding for XP on that game while I waited for the full game to be finished.
TIL that in 2001, my old tripod.com site was hacked.
I was looking up my old site, because I was trying to remember an old #freeware #DOS game that I used to play that never got past the demo stage.
And after I looked up my site on the #WaybackMachine, this popup came up. And while I wasn't above putting joke popups, this is not my style at all. I took my site very seriously!
I must have had a third party hit counter or something that was compromised. The 2004 capture doesn't seem to show it and I later migrated to my uncle's domain (when he complained about my site trying to install a dialer on his computer), before abandoning the site completely after a few years. Man, it took me 25 years to find out my website had been hacked. Nooooooooo! I still have the html files I think, so I'll look up my code.
