A commonplace book is where readers have always copied the lines worth keeping. Locus Communis is that, for books, films, and TV: collect quotes, tag them, find them later.

One insight from trying frontier mapping with Claude: AI is surprisingly good at this particular task.
It can see where my own knowledge map fits in with the broader map of human knowledge. I can only see what I'm already aware of - I have blind spots by definition.
That changes how I think about using AI in my PKM.

We talk a lot about building our PKM, but there's a question I don't often ask myself: what's at the edge of what I know? And beyond it?
Frontier mapping your knowledge helps you see that boundary - and decide where to explore next. I used it as part of my quarterly review.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about the difference between access to knowledge and actually understanding something.
The first one has never been easier. The second one still seems to take time, attention, and patience.
Maybe that's why I've been spending more time building a personal library of notes. A place where ideas can stay a little longer, connect with each other, and slowly become something I genuinely understand.
