You will immediately free your content from any specific company’s servers and will make it possible for people using other apps and tools to follow your message.
This is a win-win opportunity for everyone in a time when we all need to meet people where they are.
We are happy that you are also on social media and in particular on #Fediverse. This reaffirms the importance of social media and fediverse in particular.
I would suggest, therefore, the opening towards @Meta regarding the permission to be able to share on Fediverse from Threads also for European users. +In my opinion, there is no reason not to allow it, no violation of privacy or anything else.

Why are we, here in Europe, still not allowed to activate Fediverse Sharing on #Threads?
There would be no real and serious reasons for this announcement, except for the too restrictive impositions of the EC that fails to understand that, in doing so, discrimination is created between users, instead of protecting an alleged "privacy".

This morning (March 21), here in Italy on @Threads the option for #Fediversesharing appeared for a while. After a few minutes of "spinning wheel" spinning, she disappeared.
We don't know if it's proof (it went wrong) or mistakes, but this lack of option, for us European users, is now very boring.
The gap should really be bridged with American users, who can choose whether or not to share on Fediverse. We can't choose anything yet.
How do Mastodon and Threads actually interact?
Our latest paper on Fediverse sharing is out! We look at how these platforms connect, the impact of integration, and how users perceive it. Some Mastodon servers welcome Threads, while others block it—shaping the relationship between decentralized and centralized social media.

Traditional social media platforms, once envisioned as digital town squares, now face growing criticism over corporate control, content moderation, and privacy concerns. Events such as Twitter's acquisition (now X) and major policy changes have pushed users toward alternative platforms like Mastodon and Threads. However, this diversification has led to user dispersion and fragmented discussions across the walled gardens of social media platforms. To address these issues, federation protocols like ActivityPub have been adopted, with Mastodon leading efforts to build decentralized yet interconnected networks. In March 2024, Threads joined this federation by introducing its Fediverse Sharing service, which enables interactions such as posts, replies, and likes between Threads and Mastodon users as if on a unified platform. Building on this development, we study the interactions between 20,000+ Threads users and 20,000+ Mastodon users over a ten-month period. Our work lays the foundation for research on cross-platform interactions and federation-driven platform integration.
Last week, I praised Meta’s move from censoring information to using Community Notes to provide transparent, crowdsourced accountability. This swift reversal is encouraging, but its speed and decisiveness warn of the dangers of centralized social media like Facebook, X and even Bluesky.
