I wrote a blog post about office hours, the most silent time of the day. Enjoy!

It's only the second day of the semester and I already feel behind #facultylife #winewithmywhine

Very productive work session tonight. Prepared a final exam for a Spring class and materials for a student project for an upcoming Summer class. My personal motto: "Always be prepping".

Theory:
💭 I have two hours for research, let's implement some ideas!

Reality:
👨‍💻 Figure out how to install libraries and get the data in the right format ➡️ four hours gone

The upside of working for a state university is that the benefits, time off, and general conditions are fantastic; the downside is OH MY GOD SO MANY ONLINE TRAININGS. I'm doing the semi-annual faculty onboarding training and am hoping not to fail the LGBTQ unit this time because I'm freakin' LGBTQ myself and it's just embarrassing that I'm not up on such things. Yeeeesh.

I think one of the biggest surprises of #FacultyLife is the personal significance of the first time you put 'graduated PhD student', 'grants awarded', or 'papers published' on a CV and how that gives way to 'just another line on a CV' when you're doing it for the 3rd, 10th, or 50th time.
In the calm morning before a long day of activities, and spurred by discussions with some first-year graduate students here at SMU, I seek knowledge and maybe a little comfort in the pages of Serge Lang's "Calculus of Several Variables" book. #NotKidding #FacultyLife https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/977160421487599617/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/49221

I am at SMU again today before sunrise, and will again not be home until after sunset. #FacultyLife https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/977156640851054592/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/49218
