Exactly 1 year ago, I ordered an FLX1 from @furilabs after seeing it at #FOSDEM25 . I was on the look-out for something as my phone had just died 2 days earlier.
My expectations were low, having only ever tried using a Pinephone (not pro)
Once i got the FLX1 in my hands, I was blown away by how well it worked.

Camera, GPS, Phone calls, Mobile data* all worked flawlessly out of the box. I can run android apps like signal or my banking app. And the Linux app ecosystem has almost anything I would need on FlatHub.
Battery life is decent even when running android apps, and I feel like I can rely on the device working when I need it.

(*) I am having some odd bugs with mobile data on my carrier, but one of the devs is helping me resolve it. ( thanks @fakeshell )

At first, there were obviously some rough edges.
E.G. I was unable to use the phone with a SIM I bought for a trip to Japan, I didn't know that i could use my banking app, or general instability.
Today however, many rough edges have been dealt with, and I have adapted to the device. The FLX1 is in my pocket right now and my only device 90% of the time.

The team behind the device have been extremely dedicated and helpful. I am very grateful for all the work they put into this awesome device.

If anyone is looking for a cool (non-SailfishOS) Linux phone that *works as a daily driver* I would definitely point them towards FuriLabs.
(Just expect there to be some issues, that's inevitable)
I don't have much experience with the current FLX1s, but that hardly matters as it's mainly about the software and experience.

Looking forward one more year! ๐Ÿฅ‚

Full disclosure: I will receive the dock for this phone in exchange for writing this post. In no way did FuriLabs influence what i said and I was planning on doing so anyway.

Very much looking forward to our upcoming first live recording of the #SoftwareFreedom #podcast together with @llas at 14:00 CET (Europe/Brussels), UA4.218

I hope next year's FOSDEM they can accommodate for a quantum devroom again. This year (2026) it didn't happen, but 2025 it did and was amazing!

Just did my presentation on #imquic, my attempt at working on a QUIC library for real-time media, so #roq (RTP Over QUIC) and #moq, in #openmedia. Seemed well received, so I'm happy! You can find the slides at the link below, where a recording will also pop up soon in case you missed it

Found one thing to update in my "How to survive FOSDEM" post.

The map was stil from 2019. And while buildings does not move, there is no bar in Janson anymore but map was still showing it.

FOSDEM is 2 weeks conference in 2 days. Can be tough to survive.

When looking for things written about me and OpenPrinting I stumbled upon this one:

I got interviewed on this year's FOSDEM back in February, by Luca Berton. It is about what we are doing at OpenPrinting.

Earlier this year, Swift reached a new milestone by having its first-ever devroom at FOSDEM. Here's a look back at how that finally came to be.

Ashamed to say I'd never heard of the phrase "social and solidarity economy" before today

"Solidarity economy or social and solidarity economy (SSE) refers to a wide range of economic activities that aim to prioritize social profitability instead of purely financial profits"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidarity_economy

Found in the following FOSDEM25 talk
"A Business Intelligence architecture for Social and Solidarity Economy."
