A statement by @volla OS about the lock incoming :

Volla OS remains open source and without restrictions for apps

Google's announcement that it will only allow apps from the Google Play Store to be installed on stock Android has caused irritation among users. First things first: Volla OS is not affected by this, as it is based on open source Android and remains open source itself. Just hit me that #AOSP has Talkback baked in, but AOSP (as far as I know) doesn't have a Text-to-Speech engine

Which feels bizarre, but also another thing to point to when arguing that AOSP (not Android) is juuust this side of mothballed at Google

Hey #AskFedi / #HiveMind,

Anyone got any pointers for setting up #VisualVoicemail on #Android #AOSP or #LineageOS-derived dialers with #MintMobile, or #TMobile or other T-mobile #MVNOs?

I called the number, set up my PIN and greeting, but I just keep getting "Can't activate visual voicemail" in the dialer, even after going to Voicemail in the settings, turning off Visual voicemail, and turning it on again.

When I was on AT&T, it would occasionally be able to fetch the VMs, but often fail. I'm hoping it might work better with Mint/Tmo. XD

I'm on #IodéOS (based on Lineage).

#FreeBSD on mobile when? Would be much much better than whatever the fuck #Android / #AOSP / #Google are doing right now. I think we need to start working on this.

Oh, I didn't remember this fork of DivestOS exist.

Hopefully it will continue to exist for a while.

Will #LineageOS and #AOSP be able to get around the new #Android certification feature that will be rolling out worldwide next year?

Keep Android Open

Advocating for Android as a free, open platform for everyone to build apps on.

Okay folks, I think tomorrow I'm going to backup all the important data on my phone and install a non-Google based Android ROM (hopefully something truly AOSP) on my Pixel 9 Pro XL. But... I still need to access some of the Google libraries for work related things. I used to be so good with this stuff, but work profiles... Can I some how just run the Google needed libraries there for those apps and leave the Personal profile completely open source? I guess I'm talking about things like bank apps, Outlook for Enterprise, and my co-parenting app. Don't really need Google for any of the normal things I use other than those. #android #aosp #help

To anyone who's actually confused about what to pick between GrapheneOS and Murena/eOS. I very much encourage you to read the article linked by GrapheneOS in the description (Kuketz's blog post as well, linked inside the Graphene blog post) and if you go to the referred iFixit post mentioned in the article (which has corrected some of its mistakes after Graphene pointed it out), you can also find the official /e/OS response to Graphene's blog post as well.

Kuketz's post is really informative on how /e/OS works and I'll strongly recommend people considering /e/OS to give it a proper read.

Once again, thanks to @GrapheneOS for linking me towards the information I needed politely.
