There are two types of people in this world, those who can #extrapolate from incomplete data … #vss365

She needed to create new points of reference. If she'd base her knowledge on experience, she'd only #extrapolate from trauma, and expect more of the same. Her whole body shaking, she closed her eyes and let go.

From this, they would come up with the #critical #path, and then #extrapolate the project #completion date. They would then write it up, and send it to HugeCo for approval.

It would go like this: We receive the project brief on, say, 15 March. It takes a few weeks of talking and then doing this estimating to get the #proposal finished, say ready for presenting to HugeCo on 1 May. It would say "If we start work on 15 June, it will be done March 31".

Have you watched the series (#Extrapolate)? It's not trying to predict the future. It (quite literally) "extrapolates" how the world might be in the near future.

But it's a drama. EG: Episode 3 is about a rabbi trying to save his temple in Miami as sea level rise floods the city.

A Self-Supervised Framework for Function Learning and Extrapolation

Understanding how agents learn to generalize — and, in particular, to extrapolate — in high-dimensional, naturalistic environments remains a challenge for both machine learning and the study of...

I haven’t had the chance to watch #Gervais#Derek but have seen some outtakes and discussion (all via #YouTube). Even saw a ‘Best of Dougie’ 25 minutes. There’s a bit where Derek asks the ever-exasperated Dougie, driving the minibus, ‘If all the bangers (tiny fireworks) were attached to an atomic bomb would it make a bigger bang’. Something like that. Such a brilliant thing for Derek to say. Gervais intrigued me as a person. ‘Derek’ even though I’ve had to #extrapolate, as it were, from partial data, is a wonderful creation. Derek is blessed with the unceasing intrigue of so many of us. To look to the stars or across an ocean or in a rock pool or at a forest, a city even, is to begin that journey.
#SmithWilson method uses the available data to
-exactly fit #bond prices w/ present data
- #extrapolate them by using a weighted average of the last observable data point predetermined #UFR
