We don't avert the ecological catastrophe but somehow we develop a free, fair, and ecological world system from the ashes. More likely a few small isolated pockets of humanity in Northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, Patagonia or the Tibetan plateau. Not a lot of soil in those places.
