I follow this rad #engineering dude on YouTube because he shares really cool & interesting content. I love this recent video where he bought an #octopus from a seafood market, brought it home & taught it how to play an underwater #piano that he invented.

Each cephalopod's chromatophore organ comprises an elastic sac containing pigment of different colors with a set of obliquely striated radial muscles. When excited, the muscles contract, expanding the chromatophore, enhancing that color [📹 SaltyFlyTying] #globalmuseum #cephalopod
S touhle 17-metrovou "olihní" bych radši žádnou hru hrát nezkoušel... Než bych si já dal kalamáry, ona by si dala tatarák...

"I'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade..."

AKA my "Draw a were-octopus without it looking like an Illithid or Cthulu" challenge". I think I... mostly succeeded?

I choose to interpret that raising of the middle digits as a friendly gesture. If this was a human I think those would be thumbs.

I spent a good amount of time with the cuttlefish at the Seattle Aquarium during my trip there. I heckin' love cuttlefish. They were all extremely interested in watching me watching them. And they took turns being the focus. The casual total skin changes was interesting to see in person. They do indeed shift only the part of their body facing other cuttlefish when signaling.

#Cuttlefish fact: Cuttlefish have a W-shaped pupil and don't have color receptors. However, they have high resolution perception of light polarization, and shift their lens relative to the retina in order to focus (compared to mammals distorting our lens like primitive beings). They have two fovea per eyeball, and can likely selectively focus the chromatic aberration of their wide pupils to perceive color.

How #Octopuses Crawl: New Study Shows Detailed #Cephalopod Movements
Using new imaging technology, dubbed #EyeRIS, which relies on an array of microlenses at the front of the camera to capture multiple perspectives in a single shot. It films in low light to observe from a safe distance to avoid physical contact, making sure the animals are undisturbed.

How Octopuses Crawl: New Study Shows Detailed Cephalopod Movements | KQED

Researchers at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have developed a new imaging system that makes it possible to capture the fascinating ways deep-sea octopuses move in detail.

Bought a bag of random Lego parts from a charity shop the other day.

After some digging, I found I had 3 incomplete sets: Iron-man mech, Mclaren car, and the Deep Sea animals set.

Thanks to Rebrickable and a couple of tweeks, I managed to create these 2 marine animals to add to my ocean menagerie.
