This #swan was preening on the #ExeterCanal (and so was its #reflection).

The canal (see last post) was more atmospheric in the morning mist than I managed to capture. The Purple Heron sat in a tree for quite a while before flying off.

An early start this morning to try for closer views of the Purple Heron on Exminster Marshes. Initially, I couldn't find it and walked in completely the wrong direction. Luckily, another birder found it and I hurtled back up the towpath to catch some pretty good views.

Always good to see a Kingfisher and even better to see it fishing.

#exeter flood relief scheme earning its money this morning #ExeterCanal
In the morning, the weather had been pretty lousy with heavy intermittent showers. However, it had started to clear from about midday and so as we reached the #RiverExe and then the #ExeterCanal the weak #Winter #Sun had made an appearance. No breeze to speak of either, which made for quite a speedy #cycle ride.
Part of the journey is past the #RiverExe and you can see part of a flood relief channel with a weir where sea #birds are often found resting. Today there were #gulls but other times you may see #cormorants or #shags there. Further on, the #cyclepath goes by the #ExeterCanal and it has been nice to see people still #exercising i.e. #running, #cycling or #walking by the water.
